When should I re-season my cast iron cookware?
Cast iron cookware may need to be re-seasoned from time-to-time, and it is usually because of improper care and/or storing which can lead to rust, lack of use, or poor quality seasoning to begin with.
- If you see rust - any rust - in or on your cookware, it should be thoroughly cleaned (as if preparing new cookware) and then it should be re-seasoned.
- If food starts to stick to the cooking surface, it should be thoroughly cleaned (as if preparing new cookware) and then it should be re-seasoned.
- If you have not used your cast iron cookware for quite a while, and even though you don't see any rust, it is a good idea to re-season it. You probably won't need to go through the process for preparing new cast iron.
