What if food sticks to my cast iron cookware?
- If food sticks to your cast iron cookware and it has already been seasoned, the seasoning is most likely compromised and the pan should be re-seasoned.
- If you did not season your cast iron cookware before using it for the first time, you will need to thoroughly clean it and prepare it for cooking.
- If you did properly prepare it for cooking and food still sticks to it, make sure the cooking surface is thoroughly clean - no bits of food or rust that may cause food to stick.
- You may be able to scrape off food that is stuck to the cooking surface with a spatula or a plastic scraper. Rust will need to be removed with a steel wool scouring pad. After removing the stuck-on food or rust, the area should be re-seasoned. It is usually best to re-season the entire cooking surface.
