How do I store my cast iron cookware?
|
-
Store your cast iron cookware in a cool dry location.
-
It's better to store cookware such as a dutch oven, without the lid on it. If storing with a lid, place a paper towel between the lid and the base to allow circulation of air.
- The drawer under your oven is good for storing your cookware because the heat from the oven prevents accumulation of moisture in the drawer. Moisture on cast iron can cause it to rust.
- If your cast iron cookware is properly seasoned, you can store it just about anywhere. I store at least 8 different pieces of cookware in a wooden trunk inside a covered trailer that sets outside all the time. I have never seen rust on the items that have been properly cleaned and seasoned prior to storage.
