Our first experience using this time-proven, durable cookware began about 25 years ago when we were participating in primitive camping events - called rendezvous - and we've been hooked ever since!  Using this old-fashioned cookware at the rendezvous is a no-brainer since everything we use must be from the pre-1840s time period.   Just about all of the campers have numerous pieces of cast iron cookware sitting around the camp site or hanging from the fire irons.

The skillets clanking in the wind begin to sound like a soothing wind chime after a couple of days - yet another pleasant sound which adds to the ambiance of primitive camping.  Nothing is better than cooking over an open fire using a cast iron skillet to fry up bacon and eggs or using a dutch oven covered with coals to cook your favorite biscuits, cake, cobbler, or muffins.

We started cooking dishes - and entire meals - that we would never attempt at home.   Everything seems to taste better when we cook with cast iron.  It didn't take us long to realize that one major reason why we were preparing such great, healthy, tasteful meals without much effort was because we were using cast iron cookware.

Our passion for the rendezvous and getting back to basic healthy cooking with cast iron was the impetus for wanting to share the experience of using cast iron cookware.  Of course, you don't need to go to rendezvous or camp to enjoy cast iron cookware.  Why not try cooking with cast iron and see if it becomes a way of life for you, too?
